LETTER TO THE PEOPLE
A letter to the people of the world….
I’m about to set out and be a Fisher of men, women & children that want a better future.
One voice amongst millions of people won’t be heard, but what if millions of people all spoke with one voice?
I’ve come to realize that without a healthy planet we are putting our future at peril. Think about how our home & its inhabitants are going at this present time, are you confident that future generations will have a bright & prosperous future? Are you worried about the greed that you see, the destruction of the oceans & the land? The fact that many of our brothers & sisters’ will go to sleep scared, hungry & cold tonight is not right for humanity in the year 2022. The fact that Native Flora & Fauna of many countries around the world are vulnerable, in decline, or even extinct. How very sad for the next generations that may live in a world without free-roaming Koala, Polar, or Panda Bears. The extinct Tasmanian Tiger is a perfect example of man’s greed – with a bounty on their head shot dead. On the list of critically endangered species, today are magnificent animals like Gorilla, Orangutan, Elephant, Amur Leopard & the Black Rhino to name just a few. At whose feet do we lay the blame & who can do anything about it?
We, humans, are at the top of the food chain of this beautiful home of ours. The custodians of this planet, the ones that have the power to do the right thing & pass this magnificent creation onto the next generations with love and care. A world full of flourishing Flora, Fauna & sparkly clean oceans full of a miraculous variety of life. Where everyone & everything is treated with love and respect. Unfortunately, that isn’t happening yet. It’s a time for a change, a time for understanding, a time for working together. When I look around the world today – all I see is Greed!
How can we expect a bright and prosperous future when today we need almost 2 Earths to provide the resources we consume and absorb our waste? We only have one.
Many of the countries in our global family are spending massive amounts of money on “who’s got the biggest stick” the military war machines that many countries proudly boast about. For what? To spend trillions of dollars on a bid to be the country with “the biggest stick” to influence others and get their way. Whilst at the same time these countries have massive problems at home with healthcare, education, housing, infrastructure, electricity, food & water. Yet world dominance and power come first not their people but “the stick”. If all the money spent on the military worldwide was saved for just a couple of weeks there would be enough money to feed every man, woman & child on the planet for a year, yet one person out of every ten is hungry. Billionaires fly about in space for a few minutes costing billions of dollars whilst millions of humans below don’t have enough to eat or clean water to drink. It’s a crazy world we live in. A world that needs to change so our future generations inherit a home that is in better shape. A World that doesn’t have war anymore.
Wouldn’t it be great a miracle even, if this generation is the one that makes the changes that we all know are required for a bright & prosperous future for all? To do this we all must learn to get along regardless of race, religion, color, or any of those barriers that stop us from just simply being Humane Humans.
Our Mother Nature is sick and needs our attention, she needs us to clean & restock the oceans, rivers & lakes. To replant forests of native trees in countries all around the world. We must treat all her wonderful resources with care, love & respect. To ensure her health we must accept that big changes need to be made. She already provides enough food, water & air to breathe for every single one of us, yet people still starve. What I propose is a global approach to a global problem.
We have the expertise, the money & the solutions. Yet we fail to act as a global human collective.
If our World Leaders can spend Trillions on War Machines, flying into space & COVID they should spend Trillions on our Future NOW. Mother Nature’s health and wellbeing are vital not only for us but also for all the other inhabitants. Now the time has come to spend like our life depends on it, otherwise, our future generations which could include you will pay the ultimate cost.
I want to take a petition signed by as many people as humanly possible to the World Leaders via the UN to demand urgent action. The Power of the People must prevail. The time for drastic action is now, the past 7 years have been the hottest on record globally “by a clear margin” (1) Could it be that the increase of natural disasters lately is a way Mother Nature telling us she’s had enough? Volcanoes, Cyclones, Fires, Earthquakes, Tsunami, Drought & Floods to name just a few…Then there are the manmade disasters that happen daily like the many tonnes of waste products being dumped into our oceans. The burning of fossil fuels dumps millions of tonnes of pollutants into the very air we breathe to survive. She’s crying out for help; she needs her lungs back and her arteries & life-giving blood to be clean and healthy. Together we can do it. There is no denying that the almost “Eight Billion Human Inhabitants” on this planet are having a detrimental effect worldwide on many lifegiving ecosystems that we rely upon for our very survival. From the oceans and forests to the air that we breathe, we must learn to live in synergy with these ecosystems if we are to survive and thrive well into the future.
Perhaps it would help to look at the Earth as our Spaceship traveling through the Universe on a course of learning and adventure. For “Our” Spaceship Earth to travel successfully for millions of years it must have all its ecosystems and inhabitants in good working order, this includes every living thing you can think of like fungi, fish, frogs, bees, trees, birds, plankton, whales, and everything in between. Our safe passage and the duration of our “Voyage through the Universe” is up to us the “Human Captains of Spaceship Earth”. It almost makes me laugh that some of those Captain like Billionaires don’t realize we are already on a spaceship traveling through the Universe. The unfortunate thing is that Spaceship Earth isn’t doing so well, it’s running out of fuel, its lifegiving Oxygen system is only operating at fifty percent, freshwater supplies have begun to turn salty, internal temperature regulators are failing and yet millions of new passengers are boarding weekly! The Billionaires have the power to do more, when in fact they are creating a bigger problem by the excessive consumption by those living a wealthy lifestyle. The uber-rich are using Lion’s share of the world’s resources. Massive mansions, luxury cars, mega yachts & private jets. With rising incomes around the world, more spending will shift from basic goods to luxury goods especially transport which primarily is powered by fossil fuels; this could be a further disaster for the environment in the years to come.
The results from The UN Climate Change Conference – COP26 were far from enough, with just under 40 000 delegates in attendance. Many were being flown to Glasgow Scotland with all the VIP treatment on some 118 private jets before being whisked away in large gas-guzzling cars. The American President Joe Biden flew there via Rome with four massive aircraft including two 747 Jumbo jets and two huge C17 Globemasters taking along with him not one BUT two eight tonne Presidential limousines, other support vehicles and his own helicopter…Just this one delegation created an estimated 2.2 MILLION Pounds of CO2….
It’s time our leaders stop playing Chess with our future.
I am utterly appalled at such hypocrisy, millions of pounds of CO2 pumped into the atmosphere so these delegates can discuss our future, Leaders of the World standing at the podium telling us to “do more for the planet and go green” They should stay home and connect like the rest of us – online. Our technology has evolved to such a point that we can now talk face to face in real-time over the internet with many people from all corners of the globe able to attend a conference without having to even leave their homes. Yet these so-called “Leaders” continuously travel abroad in their private jets, stay in luxury hotels, and are given the VIP treatment – at what cost to “our” environment?
It’s time we the people unite and say “enough”, it’s time the hypocrisy was brought out into open. Just because someone has extreme wealth or power it seems ok by the society of today for people to have private planes, massive mansions, mega-yachts, and even spaceships that consume so very much of our very limited finite resources. Yet governments and leaders won’t say anything against this excessive consumption by those living an extravagant wealthy lifestyle as it’s mostly them looking after themselves and their friends with the money…
I often wonder why stronger legislation hasn’t been placed on products we consume to have mandatory conditions put on them that are beneficial for the environment. It seems many consumer goods are made NOT to last, products like clothing, printers, fridges, toasters, ovens & even fairy lights for the Christmas Tree!
It seems that companies manufacture goods to last only a short duration, as they want more sales soon, people always consuming thanks to fancy advertising making you think it’s a “must-have, you need it, your life won’t be complete unless you have it” I see celebrities and those with money that won’t go out wearing the same outfit twice. So many people just don’t seem to understand that constant consumption goes hand in hand with many environmental issues, the government or businesses won’t tell you this as they want you to always spend. We have the technology and countries cooperating for people to be flying above our heads in the International Space Station for over Twenty Years straight!
Yet down on Earth we can’t make sunglasses that don’t scratch, pantyhose that don’t rip, a razor or toothbrush that ultimately lasts. It’s multinational corporations wanting more sales and growth, creating inferior products that don’t last and need to be constantly replaced.
It’s frankly quite disgusting that for advanced as humanity has become, we are very much a throwaway society that will just go and replace something when we must move towards more sustainable products that last longer, can easily be repaired, or upgraded. But no, we keep sending millions of tonnes of used goods into landfills every year.
We must do so much better on so many fronts, from larger items to those that are consumed by the millions per day, how crazy that currently the most thrown away article is some 4.5 Trillion cigarette butts per year, they quickly leach toxins into the surrounding environment and take years to biodegrade. The empty drink bottles, cups & cans are thrown into the environment by the truckloads per day. Everyone needs to take responsibility for our environment from the consumer all the way up to the Governments and Business. Every single person can do their bit, change their daily habits, recycle & reuse what you can, throw cigarettes in the bin, buy products that are known to last, demand better from our global manufacturers via governments if necessary, to increase warranties on products like whitegoods for example so they are forced to improve the quality, longevity & repairability of our everyday goods. We must get away from this throw everything away and replace it because it’s cheap mentally. It might be cheap for your wallet but at what cost to the Environment.
Many industries must make changes for a better tomorrow.
The current average global population increase is estimated at around 80 million people per year, approximately 200,000 new human passengers on Spaceship Earth EVERY SINGLE DAY!
We’re the chosen species here on Earth, I wonder, Is humanity not unlike a plague of locusts? Locusts consume everything in their path whilst reproducing into plague-like proportions, once they reach levels that the environment can no longer sustain, they die. Think about it, are we that unfamiliar to a plague of locusts. Putting the brakes on our population explosion is one simple way of helping Mother Nature. Couples having just two children per family would greatly increase our chances of getting our climate under control. With global sea levels continuing to rise the threat of flooding will increase and entire coastal populations may need to be relocated. With an unclear future ahead of humanity are we not better to keep our numbers under control? For developed countries, I feel that two siblings per couple mean that we may bring our population under control to a manageable level.
Another aspect of the population that is hardly mentioned is couples that have trouble conceiving are using surrogate mothers or expensive IVF, whilst I understand that people want their own genes in their children, spare a thought for the millions of orphans that are in the world right now. The thousands of children that have fled places like war-torn Syria without any parents, the Earthquake in Haiti left behind thousands of children without a parent. I wish more couples would entertain the idea of adoption. As far too many children alive today slip through the cracks and are sold as slaves!
How disgusting of mankind in 2022 to allow this trade to continue of our little innocent ones!
With almost 8 billion humans currently orbiting the sun, it is estimated that 10 000 distinct varieties of Religion exist, from the majors like Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Folk Religion the list is almost endless, some are Agnostic or Atheists and those that define themselves as “Spiritual but not religious”. Over the centuries religion has been the cause of much heartache and pain from numerous wars to the appalling treatment of children by the church. It’s a subject that is so massive that It’s hard even to begin, I believe in some of the figures of the past like Mohammad, Jesus, Buddha & Moses. but I feel many of their teachings and ways have been construed by man to create something they could use to control, manipulate, and profit by.
Whether it be the different cultures and people of the world, or down to the depths of the oceans, or the vast mountain ranges covered in all types of life, the wide variety of everything that is living is one of life’s great free gifts – could all these living things be the result of Evolution? Is it the mastermind of a Creator? Perhaps a combination of both? Could the Universe be like a massive mainframe computer running a program called “life”? Could humanity just be in its infancy of understanding? Is humanity being tested or even refined by a higher being? I don’t know the exact answer for all these complex questions, but yes, I do believe in a higher being, a God, an expert “Life” programmer in some form or another. I’ve gone from Atheist to being a believing in something that is almost out of the realm of my understanding, let alone being able to adequately word such a thing in black and white!
I’m not here to preach but to offer some food for thought, for people to go in search of their own path and understanding. Imagine if every man, woman & child on the planet only spoke Italian, only ate Italian food & drinks, everybody is Catholic, all the Art and Architecture Italian. Whilst I love everything Italian from the art to the pizza & who wouldn’t like to take a Ferrari for a drive! I also admire the differences and uniqueness you’ll find in all corners of the globe, from the food & drinks we consume, the clothes worn, the plants grown, the languages spoken, the people, and the plethora of Gods we worship! Let’s enjoy the vast miraculous variety that this world has to offer, including religion.
The basis of most Religions is to treat others with love and respect. If everybody just treated everyone regardless of who they are with love & kindness, we’d already be one step closer to fixing the world. With well over 60% of the World’s Population believing in “something” I’m amazed that Humanity has yet to learn that war is such a waste. No mother would want to send her son to war. I’m deeply saddened that humanity can spend almost Two Trillion dollars a year on killing each other.
If only this money was spent on the environmental crisis we currently face, yet our leaders are hell-bent on their big sticks. Research done by the Costs of War Project at Brown University, “found an estimated 30,177 American active-duty personnel and veterans who have served in the military since 9/11 have died by suicide, compared with 7,057 killed in post 9/11 military operations” This tells me that it isn’t in our nature to murder other human beings. It’s our governments and the leaders in this world that make young men kill. There must be a better way…
War is so pointless, why have countries continued to build such terrifying weapons as the Nuclear Bomb? Haven’t we learned from the devastating destruction of Hiroshima or Nagasaki? I simply don’t understand that Russia, China, USA, France & The United Kingdom among others all continue to have Nuclear Weapons- It’s time they are permanently taken off the table. It’s time we the people demand it.
Whilst many nations continue to spend outrageous amounts of money on the military and want to have “a big stick” including Nuclear Weapons. Many people don’t realize that these same countries are working together on many fronts, such as the already mentioned “International Space Station” and since 2007 countries like United States, China, Russia, EU, UK, India & Japans amongst others have all been working together and spending billions on another “Megaproject” called ITER the “International Thermonuclear Experiential Reactor” currently being built in France.
“Fusion, the nuclear reaction that powers the Sun and the stars, is a potential source of safe, non- carbon-emitting, and virtually limitless energy. Harnessing fusion’s power is the goal of ITER, which has been designed as the key experimental step between today’s fusion research machines and tomorrow’s fusion power plants”
“Safe, sustainable, environmentally responsible, and abundant source of energy” see what amazing advances are being made by working together researching and planning for our future! Endless environmentally friendly energy would help turn the table on climate change. To say goodbye to fossil fuels and their devastating effect on the planet would be surely something to celebrate. It will happen one day. This collaboration between these powerful countries is proof that we can all work together for the benefit of mankind and this wonderful planet we live on Earth.
Our home is in peril, but it’s not too late for change. Together we can do it. So please become my friend on Facebook, join my mailing list, sign the petition, engage in some conversation, and stay tuned for today is just the beginning. I am just a single voice in the billions of us out there, but what if many join together with me & help raise my single voice into a God Almighty Roar!
If there is to be peace in the world, There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations, There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities, There must be peace between neighbours.
If there is to be peace between neighbours, There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home, There must be peace in the heart.
